When it comes to buy the furniture for our home, we all get very excited because when it arrives, we get to enjoy it. Most of the time, people want to get their furniture right away, but can forget to follow the right steps. I always suggest to take accurate measurements of the rooms, entrance ways and/or elevators you’re planning to furnish, before you even visit any store for the first time. When it comes to measuring, it’s important to consider the width, depth and height of the room; as well as the location of doors, windows, fire places and existing furniture. Once you have the size of the room, the next question would be “is it easy to access”? If you live in a house, take the inside measurements of the door frame, and then take the measurements of the hallway. If you live in a condo, and you already measured the room and the door entry of the suite, take the measurements of the elevator: width, depth and height. Many customers that come to Decorium, with floor plans, forget to bring that information. If the furniture doesn't fit in the elevator, it doesn't matter whether it fits in the room, because you won’t get it past the first floor. If it is a basement that you need to furnish, make sure to record the width, depth and height of the stairs and the landing space at the bottom. Once you’ve collected all the measurements, bring them to Decorium and start furniture shopping like a pro. If you’re still having trouble visualizing how the furniture will fit in your room, there is one more trick that you can take advantage of. Get the measurements of the furniture that you like, take them home, and outline the plan on your floor with masking tape or painter tape. You can also tape the wall with the height of the pieces you want to bring home. I know that it takes some time to follow all these suggestions but in the end you will save yourself from mistakes and headaches. If you find you don’t have as much space as you originally thought, we will always help you find the right furniture for your home.
