There are many Solid woods used in furniture, with the most popular woods used in Canada being Maple, Birch, Cherry, Oak & making a come back is Ash & Walnut. All these species of hard woods are strong and very easy to maintain. Furthermore, any hard woods kiln-dried in Canada have a 6-8% moisture content which prevents cracking, splitting, & warping. No longer do we have to use polishes, due to technological advances and improved finishing processes. As a matter of fact the manufactures now advise not to use commercial spray polishes, as they can dry the wood out because they contain silicone. While using a damp cloth to clean minor dirt & dust is sufficient, your best option is a wonderful product from Guardsman we have here at Decorium, which not only nourishes your fine wood furniture but also helps protects it from harmful UV rays. People ask me all the time why some woods do not have a high glossy finish, but the truth is usually the only time a high gloss finish is applied is when using Veneers. That being said, try to avoid traditional wood polishes like mentioned above, and stick with the stuff that won't harm the surface of your wood furniture, like Guardsman. Lastly, it is also very important to keep the humidity in your home at 30-50%. This will help preserve the beauty of your solid wood furniture and keep your decor looking fresh.
